Driving Tips – Smooth Landing

The key to great driving is to approach the ball with a "shallow" angle of attack. Most poor drivers of the golf ball, have too steep of an attack angle which is culprit behind pop-ups, slices, toe hits and all of those nasty little scratches on the top of your club! To get an idea of what it means to be steep versus shallow, think of the flight of an airplane. A plane that is crashing into the ground is traveling on too steep of an angle of descent. A plane that is landing safely is approaching the runway on a "shallow" angle, so much so that the plane will fly for a decent period of time level to the ground before touching down smoothly. To avoid a crash landing with your driver, practice making some swings just above the height of your golf ball. This may feel like making a baseball swing at a really low pitch. Once you can consistently just miss the top of the ball, bend your posture over a touch so that the clubhead smacks the back of the ball. The angle of attack for an absolutely perfect tee shot will leave your tee standing tall!

Jeff Ritter – Creating Spin!

By far, one of the most frequently asked questions I get is “how do I put more spin on my golf ball?” Well, if you are going to make that ball dance on command you will need to have the perfect combination of the following:

1. Perfect Lie – A clean, tight lie from the fairway is imperative as longer grass that gets stuck between the ball and the face will fill your grooves and take that spin away.

2. High Spin Ball – Not all golf balls are created equal! Make sure you research your ball’s performance characteristics to make sure you have the equipment to pull off what you are looking for.

3. Steep Angle of Attack – To put some extra juice on the ball, you’ll need to create some “pinch” between the club face, ball and turf. Attacking the ball with a slightly more downward decent will do the trick here.

4. Speed – Increased swing speed will increase the ball’s RPM’s giving you more stopping power. Imagine the attitude you would have striking a match on the back of a matchbook. Start a little fire at the bottom and you ball will sit with ease!
